Default Star Trek Online

Hey guys....been very quiet on here for a few months so I thought I'd tick a post up to see what everyone is doing.

The open beta for STO has just started and I've bought myself a copy. Played a bit last night and it's looking pretty good.

Anyone else going to give this one a go? If so we should look at hooking up perhaps on a friend channel or something.

What are the rest of you guys up to now??

Grats thelee

I'm not going to play Star Trek since the whole universe doesnt really (and have never) appealed much to me for some reason. I am however looking forward to SWTOR but alas its scheduled for spring 1011..

At the moment im on a break (maybe perm) from wow playing Call of duty Modern Warfare 2 - been a long time since i played FPS games and i enjoy the classless system where you dont instantly lose to Y class if you are X.

Heya B,

Well I grew up on the origional Star Trek and watched all the franchises (TNG, DS9 and Voyager). I've really missed playing a space MMO, since Eve became too much of a time consuming game to get fun out of it.

Been playing for just under 1 week now and the game has some good points and some bad.

Space combat is very good and I enjoy it, but the ground combat is a little bit silly. Lots of buggy missions and the game comes across as not too complicated, which I see as a bad point. I'm close to getting in to my first tier 2 ship and I heard the fun starts there. The tier 1 ship only has 2 phasers and 1 torpedo launcher and theres not much to do.

I really like how they have done the shields in the space combat. Positioning of your ship is VERY important...if your rear shields go down you have to turn your ship to the side of front so you don't take hull damage...but then you can loose position on your enemy. Makes things very interesting.

1 server world wide is also a nice thing....with my play time being GMT+4 it means I can still play on a busy server.

I will probably also play the new Star Wars game when it comes out too....but I hope it has lots of depth and complexity!

Well you can never know until you try it, but SWTOR is the first mmog since WoW that i have believed would be good, i knew all the others would be bad and imo i was right. So hopefully im right about SWTOR being good. Bioware is a good developer and have made many other cool rpg games for many years.

One thing to note is that they are doing 100% voiceover on EVERYTHING. Yes thats right, all quests, all missions all charater chat - everything is fully immersed in the universe with voices. Go check out some of the videos of this if you havnt seen it already, looks really cool and interesting.
